parts for motors

I have a wba6509a56 wizard where can I get parts for it.

Re: parts for motors

First off solve the Who Done It? Western Auto bought
motors from several suppliers over the years and each
supplier's motors were usually closely related to their "brand" outboards BUT not to Wizards made by
other suppliers. That said, model number sounds like
a 60's made by Scott or Chrysler/West Bend. I would
look at the link sites for those brands to see if
pictured models look similar to yours.
Parts is parts...maybe. coils, point impellers,
grips and starter handles are usually available either
New Old Stock, after market or reproduction...others
are only to be found as usable parts from a parts
motor. Do NOT buy parts until you know your make,
model and serial number AND who made it and their
related Make, Model and Serial Number.
There are those who specialize in suppling used parts from parts motors and would likely know all that needs
to be known but again maybe not...best to do your
research before spending money.
All the above assumes the motor is a good candidate
for investing time and money...not all old outboards
are money pits but some certainly are.
just my opinion...not engraved on stone tablets

Re: parts for motors

Checked online sources and found little.
Checked an old repair manual (ABOS Outboard Service Manual vol 1 30 hp and below)
Wizard 6509 is a West Bend/Chrysler 1965 9hp
West Bend made Elgins for Sears prior to making
Wizards for Western Auto. Chrysler bought West Bend
about 1964 and changed to Chrysler brand in 1966.
Scott(McCulloch) made Wizards for Western Auto then
switched to making outboards, chain saws and other
products for Sears...for a few years...later on I believe Mercury Marine Force made Gamefisher outboards for Sears...good motors. Chrysler sold off outboard unit to Force and Force eventually was acquired by Mercury Marine.
Chrysler also had a marine engine unit in Marysville
Michigan. The day Chrysler announced that business
was closing the local paper stopped the presses to
get the late announcement in that day's paper.
That was a hot news story locally and I believe
the outboard unit went at the same time
