Wizard WD4S

I have a 6 HP 1947 or 1948 Wizard WD4S and am interested in selling it. It is gold and the paint is origional and the decals are all there and in good shape. The motor has seen very little use and I would dare to bet you could not find one in better shape unless someone had one stored new in a box. Does anyone have an idea as to what I should ask for it? Thanks

Re: Wizard WD4S

Setting an asking price for an original condition
antique (pre 1950) outboard is inexact at best.
1947-48 list price of Deluxe Twin WD4S was $159.50
which may or may not be relevent.
If your motor is truly original it is worth significantly more than average to those who
like ORIGINAL. Setting a price is either picking a
number out of thin air or some sort of auction where
bidders compete. Unless a potential buyer can examine
motor in person you will have to take clear high contrast pictures to show all significant details
so cosmetic condition can be evaluated.
Packing and shipping are significant factors to both
you and purchaser due to cost and possible damage
during shipping.
A lot of ebay sellers overhype...let the pictures sell the merchandise... Potential
purchaser will want to know...will you keep for local
pick up, cost to pack and ship and your reliability
and trustworthness.
Webvertize on AOMCI site may work on a BEST OFFER basis as may a Craigslist with a firm price.
All methods have their plus and minus factors.
Although it is unlikely anyone would put an ORIGINAL
condition motor to use, impeller and coils are available from several on line sources. Whether it runs or not is not important...the important thing
is how good it looks and that it is ORIGINAL.
A RESTORED motor is NOT an ORIGINAL.
A TOUCHED UP motor is NOT an ORIGINAL.
Packing case, original manual, hang tags and bill of sale would enhance value.
I only buy poor condition motors to work on and for parts in the $10 to $50 range.
I would guess yours might be worth the original list price plus shipping & handling and maybe a little more if two determined bidders like it.
Not likely to command price range of racing motors
or really old outboards.
Just one opinion among many.
