Up to no good...

In the next few weeks I am going to be removing
good crank shaft and reed block from a broken
crankcase and installing in another crankcase
This will involve removing connecting rods and pistons.
I anticipate no real problems...been there done that
before...nowhere near as many times as some.
If anyone wishes to see how I go about this
drop me a line. The pre 1965 Mercury Manual gives
the older K Models only passing attention...there
are a few aspects of undoing an older K Model twin
that require care and technique.
May involve removing and installing bearings also.
Jason are you listening?

I agree with you about the lack of attention to the k models in the manuals.

I've got a 1949 WF-4 and would be interested in your experiences.

Re: Up to no good...

I'm always up for learning something new. Would you consider taking some pictures and putting them up on the site like you did with the lower unit break-downs? I'm sure Jason would post them for you.

Re: Up to no good...

Two picture series ready at this point...
1) using grease gun to remove a stuck piston...
a trial that worked out well...not all do
2) removing piston from connecting rod...sometimes not as easy as it sounds
Don't know if Jason has time or space to post
(at least in near term)
Have bad habit of making up tools and devices to
help things along...some would not do that...figuring
out a device or tool usually takes far longer than
the actual job...most will do more than one outboard so probably worth while investment of time.
Tool junkie...too many tools so finding the right one when needed...
Not the first, best or most experienced...making
mistakes...learning from them...having fun.
