I have tried to clean area rugs with my challenger. Rug remnants are cleaned well, but the area rugs that are all wool with designs tend to tuft up and look blotchy after cleaning. I don't know if these are Persian or Oriental rugs
I have been cleaning all kinds of area rugs as part of my business for close to 20 years, and have never had a customer tell me afterward that I have produced the type of unattractive look that you describe. When cleaning rugs that I believe to be of considerable value, I use Challenger's middle glider - the one without the holes, but not the really thick one.
Jerry,
Get some glad pads they'er much more gental than cottons. Wool tends to shed a bit no matter what you do, but glads will lessen the chance of fiber damage.
I like release it DS for wool. I tend to pass on the exensive rugs, They should be cleaned at a rug washing facility the right way IMO.
