mold

I have a customer whos basement partialy flooded, he used his dry vac to soak up a majority of water, he is concened about mold and mildew, what should I do?

I have a dry vapor macine that also extracts, will this steam kill mold (if there is any)in the pad, or do I need to refere him to someone else?

Re: mold

Dont do anything, when you talk mold you are opening up yourself to lawsuits. Tell him to call a co that handles mold removal or treatment.

Trust me, walk away.

Re: mold

Yep. Joe M has it right. Unless you have a lot of experience in it or have taken the mold remediatiion classes/cert I'd stay away. I've passed on one of these.

If it were my house and I just wanted to get rid of it I'd rent an ozone generator, run it for a day or two (leave the house!), then put on a gas mask and treat it with Microban.

Re: mold

mold is nasty stuff... don't touch the job... I work for a company that does mold remediation... our shop has literaly THOUSANDS of dollars in stuff specificly for mold jobs... there are so many liabilitys when it comes to mold that you can't play around.

tell them to call a pro, unfortuanly had he called a pro (water damage/restoration again something my company specilizes in) he prob wouldn't have the mold issue.

Re: mold

Yea I told him I was not a mold speacialist and that I could not say I was Removing mold that all I can do is clean the carpets, but he saw my advertizement for sanitizing carpets with my dry vapor machine and that is what he wants me to do. Again I told him I was not a mold company and even offered to give him a number of a company who removes molld and he said he would rather me just sanitize his carpets and then I told him that some mold spores are heat resistant and that steaming his carpets may not kill the mold and he said he still wantted to try it. Any Comments?

Re: mold

It's always wiser in any field of endeavor to "know when to hold 'em, and when to fold 'em." You would not want to ask the person who mows your lawn if he would detect and cure the dutch elm disease afflicting the trees on your property.
