A good method might be to use an encap solution and a CBM type machine or Challenger with encap brush, then in the high traffic/dirtier areas use your dry compound there. You might be able to use very little of the compound on many jobs.
The problem with encap only as I see it is that it may not do a very good job in a residential setting, when combined with either an OP machine and pads or dry compound in the heavier soiled areas, you will see much better results.
The problem with dry cleaning only is that the compound is very expensive and messy. You need to do a very thorough post-vac and if the carpet is still wet you have to come back to do it.
Combining the two gives you many advantages of each, though using pads and an OP machine would let you avoid the dry compound step.
