This is related to resi carpet cleaning.
I have noticed that when I do my carpets(in my home) I sometimes get very small spots that show up a few days later. Usually very small maybe pin head or a little bigger. Lighter in color then before I cleaned them but they do come back.

The job I did a few weeks ago the customer told me that some of the spots came back in the one bedroom (of course her son used to clean his shotgun in there and spilt gun oil on the carpet). Nothing major and she told me not to worrie about it but still it bugs me the carpet cleaner.

Is this just the nature of carpet cleaning?

I believe it is the nature of c.c. I think you can minimize it by substituting spending extra time on a spot while adding no additional cleaning solution to it. Just keep on scrubbing. Or just add a trace amount of additional moisture to avoid carpet damage.
