Slate Tiles

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone has experience with Slate tiles. I have to create a proposal on 12" x 12" dark slate tiles with a dark gray grout. Stanley Steemer refused the job because they are worried about damaging the slate (not a lot of ply on them). Will my tile and grout attachment for my Challenger be safe for slate tiles? Would I be better off using my vapor machine from a result stand point? and Pricing per foot suggestions?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: Slate Tiles

Not sure by what you mean by "not a lot of ply".
I've cleaned slate floors via the Challenger T&G brush with no adverse effects. For stone cleaning, I usually charge $1/sq. ft., and another .50/sq. ft. to seal. The sealing should be done on a different day, so that the stone and grout have dried fully. A steam vapor machine might also do the job well.

Re: Slate Tiles

Sorry, I meant to say poly, not ply. Some slate floors seemed to be smoothed with a heavy poly, but this particular set is very raw, like a shale.

You might want to take this question over to
www.dirtygrout.com. Those people are "all stone, all
the time".
