I did a job tonight. The lady had some very nice carpets. She then asked me if I could do 2 area rugs. They looked very upscale. She said they were NOT orientals, they were Vegetable Based rugs. She asked me if I ever cleaned those. Bottom line - I got spooked and did not do it. Did this lady know what she was saying? Is there such a thing? If so, how are they cleaned?
Steve, This is a new one on me also, Never heard of a veg.based rug.. But, I have heard of veg. dyes and this is probobly what the lady ment "the rug was dyed with vegetable based dyes" It would be a good question to ask at www.therughub.com Some of the industries great rug cleaners have started to hang out there. John
That would be my guess too. I've cleaned some area rugs where rug color comes off onto the pad. I've never had a situation, however, where the non-colorfast dyes get all mixed up with each other on the rug itself after it has been cleaned.
