Just a thought,
Can the gliders be cut down to a smaller size and still do the job they are intended to do? This would put more pad on the carpet for cleaning purposes. Has anyone tryed this?
Thanks

Hi Steve
You can work with or without gliders. The glider is
something of a compromise between between the most
thorough cleaning and the easiest handling of the
machine. ON some heavily soiled jobs, I run without
a glider. Only if I noticed that the increased
pressure was causing carpet fuzzing or tip-blooming
would I feel it necessary to put the glider back.
And the holy glider is more aggressive than the
solid, thicker gliders. Also, since without a glider,
the machine has more cotton-on-carpet fiber friction
to overcome, it will after a while run hotter than if
used with a glider. I have never had a Challenger -
either the 1/2 or 3/4 hp - shut down for cooling off,
as I used to experience frequently with the Oreck
LowBoy, with its 1.0 hp, but lower quality motor.
