Safety heads-up

You would have thought that after the intense storms we've had in the last few years, there wouldn't be any trees left in NE Scotland prone to getting blown over, but walking the dogs this morning in a bit of woodland outside Stonehaven after the latest bad weather (Storm Babet),I saw a lot of new fallen and, more importantly, hanging trees.
Forestry & Land Scotland and private forest owners are still busy sorting out the mess caused by storm Arwen in 2021 and the other storms we got in 2022/23. There will still be hanging trees around next May.
This is a subject I talked to Mick about for his risk assessment.

The only mitigating action that can be taken is awareness of the danger and avoiding going under anything that is unsafe. A lot of big trees are being held up by some weak branch or a neighbouring tree and they will all come down at some point. This is especially important if you are travelling through forest in windy weather.
