Sadly, we have to announce the death at the age of 81 of Doug Dyke. Those of you, possibly more mature Challengers, may well remember Doug whose first Challenge was in 1983 and he went on to complete four more all in the 1980s. He walked initially with two chums, all from the West Country, collectively known as the Cider Crunchers. Basil Berry died in 2015, and Bernie Marshall (our much missed route vetter), died four years ago, so Doug was the last of this memorable trio. If you had met them on a Challenge, you would not have forgotten them - characters all! We send our condolences to Doug's wife, Jean and all his family - Doug will be remembered as very much a part of the early history of the Challenge.
