Re: Resupply around Tarfside

Is The Retreat closed for renovations? I was hoping to drop by...

Kent

Re: Resupply around Tarfside

My understanding is the museum itself is open, but the cafe refurbishment is not finished https://www.gleneskfolkmuseum.org/cafe

Re: Resupply around Tarfside

Thanks for the updates on the Glenesk Folk Museum cafe.
On their website it looks like they are only open Tues- Thurs with very limited menu offerings.

Unfortunately, our route ends at Dunnottar Castle, and doesn’t pass Edzell (nor any other town really until nearly the coast). Fernybank is the last town we pass through during last two days walk.

Maybe we just have to plan to carry more food from Braemar….

Re: Resupply around Tarfside

I'm guessing you are walking from Braemar to Tarfside via the Spittal of Glenmuick. If you are heading via Glendye to the Fetteresso and on to Dunnottar, you are probably right, there are no other resupply points and you will need to carry for the last few days. There is another cafe is at Clatterin Brig, but that is probably too far out of your way. There may also be a small shop and a cafe at Auchnblae, and a farm shop with cafe at Castleton, but still out of you way.

Re: Resupply around Tarfside

Sounds similar to our route, Tarfside to Glen of Drumrochty (with stop at Clattering Brig), then the final day's roadwalk to Dunnottar and Stonehaven. We are planning to carry all we need out of Braemar. Clatterin' Brig and (formerly) The Retreat are the only good stops I'm aware of along that route.

Re: Resupply around Tarfside

Thanks Louise and Kent for your expert insights!!

We are passing through Spittal of Glenmuick on the way to Tarfside and through Cairn O Mount on the way to Dunnottar Castle. You’re right that most of the suggested stops are out of our way, but maybe we will make a detour to the Clatterin Brig for the reward of hot lunch!! I hope we will be so tough by then another two days’ supply to carry will be nothing.

Many thanks again!!

Re: Resupply around Tarfside

If you are really stuck I could arrange to meet you somewhere in Glen Esk with a resupply.
