This post on Facebook from Bob Cartwright eloquently imparts some truly sad news

It is with the greatest sadness that I have to share the news that my friend the well known and loved Andy Howell passed away suddenly on Wednesday 6th October from a rapid discovery and progression of previously undiagnosed cancer.
He will be fondly remembered in many ways by the TGOC community I'm sure, not least by me from helping to blog and podcast the TGOC into international on-line fame as far back as 2005.
I'm proud to have spent many miles in his company, climbed many hills, listened to many grumbles and enjoyed many laughs in the outdoors with him.
Rose and I are beyond saddened by the news and his wife Kate wanted me to share it amongst the outdoor community. Our thoughts go out to her at this time.
I will share funeral arrangements here once they have been organised.
Farewell old friend;

May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again
may God hold you in the palm of His hand"

Our thoughts go out to Kate and we will copy details of his funeral here when they are available but in the meantime we will raise a glass to him this evening.

My thoughts are with Kate and Andys friends . He was a true challenge legend .

I was deeply saddened and shocked to hear of Andy's untimely passing.

We had been in contact not so long ago, it was great to 'chat', albeit online.

Andy's was one of the first blogs I found when I started researching the Challenge. Since then, I have enjoyed his company from time to time and kept in touch online. A lovely man, he will be greatly missed.
My sincere condolences to Kate and family.

I am saddened to read this. Andy was a multitalented Challenge luminary who would always share his knowledge and experience. My condolences to his family and friends.

Very sorry to hear this. I met Andy and Kate on a couple of Challenges and enjoyed their company and experience. My condolences to Kate.

I've just heard of this sad news. I only met him half a dozen times but they were all really good times. One of life's good guys.
