Vicky Allen, has let us know that her aunt Barbara died today, November 18th, at the age of nearly 92. Barbara and Vicky walked together on the Challenge and Barbara was 80 when she successfully completed her 10th crossing. Vicky says that Barbara always had trouble with her feet when walking but refused to be defeated by this and got by with guts, ibuprofen, paracetamol, mars bars and the odd pint of Guinness. We are sure a lot of you will remember Barbara and we send Vicky and all the family our condolences at this sad time.

A lovely lady, Avril & I remember meeting both her & Vicky on a few occasions during our Challenge stravaigs. We have not seen her for many years but it is nice to know that she reached such a good age. Hopefully her passing was peaceful and without pain. RIP Barbara.

Very saddened to hear of the loss of Barbara. I met her on a few Challenges, she always struck me as being quite a remarkable lady.

Happy memories of Barbara and Vicky at Sheilin of Mark 2009. Barbara was formidable and may she rest in peace.

Very sorry to hear this. The last time I saw Barbara was at Queen Street Station, seeing Vicky off on the Challenge.

Barbara had a laden bicycle and explained that she was giving her legs a rest ... by undertaking a cycle tour instead!
