New bridge in Glen Muick ?

Satellite images show they are constructing something (a new bridge?) in Glen Muick at NO 32433 88756. This photo taken last september suggests so too. Does anyone know if the bridge can be used by now?

Thanks for any info, BART

Re: New bridge in Glen Muick ?

This is part of a 2MW run-of-the-river hydro scheme commissioned by the Balmoral Estate - scheduled completion date is April 2020.

The photo shows construction of the intake weir. The key elements of the scheme are:

  • An intake weir spanning the River Muick at approximate grid reference NO 324887. The
    weir will be approximately 36 m in length with a height above existing river-bed level of
    1.7 m in-river and up to 4.3 m on either bank;

  • A semi-buried powerhouse, set into an existing grassy bank at approximate grid
    reference NO 344909. The powerhouse will be set into the bank with only the front
    face visible. This face will be clad with lapped larch. A transformer surrounded by a
    larch fence will be sited on top of the powerhouse;

  • A buried pipeline of 1.4 m in diameter will convey water from the intake to the
    powerhouse. This will follow an alignment either alongside or underneath the existing
    access track;

  • Water will be returned to the River Muick via a buried tailrace and outlet structure
    which will discharge water to the river via an open pool;

  • Temporary construction compounds will be sited at the intake and powerhouse areas
    during the construction phase of the works;
