Glen Tarff to North of Glendoe Resevoir

On the OS Map I cannot clearly find a way to get from Glen Tarff to the north Bank of the Glendoe Reservoir.
Following the river Tarff the path seems to terminate at a building/structure.
The aerial maps (Google) do show some sorth of a path from the north end of the dam to that structure though.

Anybody who's gone this way?

Thanks,
Willem

Re: Glen Tarff to North of Glendoe Resevoir

Hi Willem

I went that way solo in 2004, well before they built the ghastly dam that destroyed the wonderful A' Chraidhleag and allowed the planning approval of the Stronelairg wind farm 'as the landscape had already been degraded by the dam and reservoir'.

There used to be (and probably still is) a beautifully made stalkers path heading east (to start with) from the bothy that followed the north bank of the Tarff beneath (to the south of) Sron Gharbh. It wound its way up through the steep section and on to the A' Chraidhleag. I suggest that you take this and then head for the northen end of the dam to avoid the overspill channel.

If I can work out how to make a jpeg from a screen shot, I'll post a picture of the route later tonight.

All the best

Alan

Sorry for the delay: I couldn't work out how to make a jpeg of the screen, so I printed it and took a snap of it.

Willem. I took the stalkers path shown in red. It switches direction quite a bit up the steep stuff, with the occasional magnificent view back down the Tarff.

The bothy was an absolute gem, with a beautiful cooking range, bunk beds with mattresses (the mattresses were rolled and stored in the rafters. A real labour of love.

All the best
Alan

Thank you Allan.
Piece of cake....😓

What place are you on the waiting list?

Re: Glen Tarff to North of Glendoe Resevoir

What Al said.
I did something similar in 2006.
When it was all wonderful (ok wet and wild too).

Re: Glen Tarff to North of Glendoe Resevoir

Hi Willem, I went that way for the second time this year, and there is a reasonable way out, a bit steep but not very long. Up behind the ruined huts you just keep going alongside the burn then steeply up a grassy slope a bit to the right and it brings you out to a lovely new shooting hut with a veranda to sit on (if it is as sunny as when I was there). From there is a track right onto the main service road.

Thank you Kirsten.
