Accommodations in Shiel Bridge

It looks like every room in the area is already full. Too many challengers.... LOL
Anyone have any secret B&B’s?
It doesn't look like there are any bus times early from Ft William either
I am open to suggestions
Thanks

Re: Accommodations in Shiel Bridge

I can't help with accommodation, but a few years ago I camped, along with others, on the sea shore in front of the Kintail Lodge.
I gather the Wee Bunkhouse is no more.

Re: Accommodations in Shiel Bridge

Same thing happened at this time last year Craig.
A group (not TGOC) bought up a lot of spaces. I think later on they cancelled.

Is it worth considering Dornie?

I guess it depends on your route day 1.

I was in Shiel bridge by 12 I think. And that wasn't all road.

Re: Accommodations in Shiel Bridge

Sorry, it was 2016...
Where TF do the years go 🤦‍♂️

Re: Accommodations in Shiel Bridge

Could you perhaps travel to Inverness to stop over and take the morning bus to Shiel Bridge? You'd get to start walking by 11am roughly. Maybe not ideal.

Re: Accommodations in Shiel Bridge

I stayed in Inverness and caught the early bus to Dornie last year, walking by 11am - and that’s further than Shiel Bridge. Doing it that way meant I could catch the noon train from London to Inverness non-stop which is both easy and cheap. I’m planning a Strathcarron start next May and will probably opt for the same plan - train rather than bus early morning but similar timings.

Re: Accommodations in Shiel Bridge

The Travelodge in Inverness is good and cheap enough if you book well in advance - I stayed there last year.

Re: Accommodations in Shiel Bridge

Thank Louise, I had only checked buses from Ft William and they don't arrive in Shiel Bridge until either 15:30 or 19:30 I will check Inverness. On a brighter note when the Kintail Lodge figured out we were challengers they are looking into trying to accommodate us. It is much harder with 4 than my usual 2

Re: Accommodations in Shiel Bridge

I have used the Ratagan Youth Hostel a couple of times on the TGO Challenge. It's only a couple of kilometres from the bus stop at Shiel Bridge.

Re: Accommodations in Shiel Bridge

Thanks Brian.

Re: Accommodations in Shiel Bridge

Craig,
Another option is to seek accommodation in one of the villages on the A87 road West of Shiel Bridge.

Citylink coach service 915 departs Kyle of Lochalsh 08:35 & arrives Shiel Bridge 09:01 and
Citylink coach service 917 departs Kyle of Lochalsh 10:00 & arrives Shiel Bridge 10:30
I'd advise reserving seats beforehand if taking either of these options.

Craig

You could try Glomach House at Ault a Chruinn. Stayed there a couple of times.

Re: Accommodations in Shiel Bridge

Hi Craig
I would recommend the little campsite at Dornie. It's a bit basic but clean and with a lovely view of Eilean Donnan Castle. I have stayed there many times, on and off the challenge.
Walk along to the Dornie hotel and have a beer and some food with other challengers, there are usually a good few there.

Re: Accommodations in Shiel Bridge

Excellent campsite at Morvich, less than a mile from Kintail (a flat walk, mostly on side road road). Has good pitches, shower block, drying room, hikers' mess) Cost me £13.00 this year on my way through on CWT.

Re: Accommodations in Shiel Bridge

Thank everyone for your suggestions. After a few emails with the lovely owners and staff at the Kintail Lodge, they have found room for us ( we are paying of course! LOL) but they were very nice!
