Depending upon from which direction you are approaching the Red Bothy, there is a shooting hut that has always been open at NH796178. I used it this year and on previous occasions.

It also benefits from having a pleasant veranda with a fine view which was appreciated during my evening meal and breakfast the next morning.

If by chance it is locked there is an excellent camping spot down below by the river at NH795178

Further to Ray & Andy's advice, if you're heading to Aviemore I'd suggest that your last opportunity to camp is by the footbridge before the climb up the Burma Road....it's a bit of a squeeze but 3 small tents should fit on the eastern side of the bridge on the left.

Following a navigation malfunction I was a tad late in the day trotting down to Red Bothy - and stopped for a glorious night at Ray's alternative bothy. There were a few very small 4-legged companions...
