List of Scottish Terminology?

Hi,

I was reading the TGO Challenge site and I found a very helpful list detailing Scottish terminology, from Ben to Beinn, things like Cruach and Creag, etc.

I can't remember the exact URL, or if it was on the TGO site itself or one of their links.

Does anyone know the page I'm talking about and has a bookmark for it?

PS, let's just say this zero-timer hope to see some of you in 2020! :relaxed:

Thanks

Re: List of Scottish Terminology?

There is such a list in the event details pdf available here.

Re: List of Scottish Terminology?

Thank you, that's exactly what I was thinking of.

Re: List of Scottish Terminology?

I don't have a list, but I find this useful:
https://www.wordhippo.com/what-is/the-meaning-of/scots-gaelic-word-5934fcf740d228941ef029998556a6869292f61f.html
Also https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/ can be useful, search a hill name and he can listen to the pronunciation 😊

Re: List of Scottish Terminology?

Thanks for the translation site.

I'm already a member of Walk Highlands, same username. I find it essential for planning and great for advice.

Re: List of Scottish Terminology?

For an introduction to the correct pronunciation there is an excellent language course - Parliamo Glasgow.

Re: List of Scottish Terminology?

That's amazin!

Re: List of Scottish Terminology?

Thanks Phil

On my first challenge I called John Manning as planned. When I told him where I was there was silence on the line.

Then he asked " William are you in Scotland!?" Since then I always send my position via text!

William :flag-bb:
