Portable power..

Until recently I've always carried spare phone batteries as a back up for my phone. NOW I have a phone which has a fixed battery. I'm looking to buy a power pack but can't decide which one. Any suggestions?

Re: Portable power..

There is a lot of choice....

My choice is dictated by how many days I will be out x what devices I carry that need charging.

On the TGO I think 4 days will be my maximum between recharge opportunities so I will carry an Anker 10000mah unit (around three full recharges of a 3000mah phone battery).

Pretty cheap...https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-PowerCore-Ultra-Compact-High-speed-Technology/dp/B019GJLER8/ref=sr_1_3?adgrpid=52951784877&hvadid=259042372306&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=1006602&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=3667706836602354229&hvtargid=kwd-299007458336&keywords=anker+10000&qid=1554463933&s=gateway&sr=8-3

In the US last year I carried the same make but 26500mah (something of a brick....) - but then I use a lot of technology.

Re: Portable power..

Trying doing without a recharger. Keep your phone on flight mode and put on max power save. My Samsung S7 will last 12 days like that. Better still, turn it off - why do you need to be connected anyway 😎

Re: Portable power..

... apart from 4 calls to Montrose of course!

Re: Portable power..

I'm carrying an Anker 25600mAh power pack, similar to the brick Ed referred to. This is obviously overkill as I'll be able to charge every 3-4 days anyway, but I really hate running out of power. It does mean I can charge up to 3 things at once, though. Anker have smaller capacity units that will do a good job.

Re: Portable power..

Anker is definitely the way to go. There are loads of other makes which aren't as reliable. I've had my 8,500 mA for a few years now. It does me fine for 4 days for phone and fitbit but my phone is mainly on flight mode. I'd probably get 10,000 mA if I had to replace it, but not more. They aren't light.

Re: Portable power..

THANK YOU to everyone who made suggestions.

I have purchased an Anker 10,000 suitable for my S9. It's arrived and weighs around 200g which is heavier than I would like but it promises to recharge my phone 3 times.

I'm planning a short trip this week to complete the Cowal Way so I'll be able to test it out before the Challenge.
