Re: Route planning into Ballater

David,

Presumably, you're planning to come over Geallaig Hill? This is a lovely route and the hill is very well tracked. Paths continue far beyond the summit, eventually petering out on the slopes east of Carn Dearg. The terrain beyond there isn't too difficult and the woods above the road are broadleaved and fairly open. There may be a couple of low fences to climb but it's a good way to go. When you reach Bridge of Gairn, look out for the path to the south which gets you into Ballater off road.

Hope that helps.

Colin

Re: Route planning into Ballater

As Colin says, once you have crossed the River Gairn on the A93, look for a side road on the right that leads down to the stables, it is opposite the post box, go down the side road for a very short distance, maybe 15m and you will see a footpath to your left which passes around the back of the house, follow this pleasant trail, a rail line that was constructed but never completed, into Ballater. After the car park just keep going straight ahead and you will end up in the centre of town.

Thanks Colin & Brian, most helpful.
