Re: What is your rucksack weight?

17Kgm -- with all food for 5 days, all wet & warm gear, 1L water + 0.5L rum (for medical purposes only!) Clothes, Maps, Tent, cooking equipment, Pole, sleeping bag, snacks etc etc.

I will try my best not to add any more snacks before I start. Not always easy.

Re: What is your rucksack weight?

Wow...
Is that everything inc worn clothes?
My pack with 3 days food is coming in around 11.6 kg.
That's with 0.5L of water. Not sure you will need to carry that much water in the West.
See you in Kilchoan I think.

Re: What is your rucksack weight?

Good point on the water, I forget sometimes where I'm walking. I'll reduce it to just 0.5 litres that'll take my weight down to 16.2kgs.

Re: What is your rucksack weight?

12Kg with no water - there really is no need to carry any as I can't imagine the first few Km without any running fresh water.

That includes 4 days food.

Please don't worry about water, wild camp sites, weevils in your biscuits, the weather - it's an adventure and something will happen that you simply can't plan for, but that's the stuff that makes the stories.

Don't forget to enjoy yourself - you are there by choice and will relax in to it all by about the 4th day.

Have a great time everyone and hope to meet some of you along the way.

Andy

Re: What is your rucksack weight?

Well under 10K - with fuel (bio-ethanol) and 3 days food.

Re: What is your rucksack weight?

Excellent advice Andy :slightly_smiling_face:

Re: What is your rucksack weight?

My rucksack currently weighs about 1Kg because it is empty and it will remain so until Wednesday evening. Over the years I've found the earlier I pack it the more little bits and bobs, the that might come in useful sort of stuff, I add to it in the days before I go. My aim is to only take essentials and a few luxuries, leaving behind all the could be but rarely is useful stuff. I've yet to succeed but that's the aim.

Re: What is your rucksack weight?

9.5kg all-up with seven days food, fuel and assorted gubbins. There's water everywhere.

Re: What is your rucksack weight?

Packing Mine Tue Ian.
Not even looking at lists now.
Just sorted food bag, and doing Meds and Wash kit bag.
Pack Tuesday...
Can I lift it?
Does it feel OK?
Pick up Wed evening and GO.

Did that once.....
NO Waterproof :anguished:
I'll check the list off when I pack :relaxed:

Re: What is your rucksack weight?

Without food and water it comes to 8,1 kg. That includes 500 grams of maps and a kilo of photo gear :-)

Total skin out weight including 5 days of food is a little over 14 kilos. My gear list in Danish can be found at my blog here: https://ultralightpedestrian.com/2017/12/14/pakkeliste-og-tanker-om-udstyr-til-the-great-outdoors-challenge-i-skotland/

Re: What is your rucksack weight?

My base weight, without food or water, is around 5.8 kg... Or 13 lbs.

Kent

Re: What is your rucksack weight?

10.8Kg with no water, and 4 days food.
so probably start with nearer 13Kg once I lay in a dram or two!

Re: What is your rucksack weight?

With poles, gaiters, outer clothing, 3 days food and 500ml water it comes to 12.4kg. Still more than I would like!

Re: What is your rucksack weight?

I have a new rucksack, so right now I'm concentrating on fitting everything inside. Think it will be fine, only the crocs will have to go on the outside.

With 5 days of food it comes to somewhere around 12-13 Kg.

Re: What is your rucksack weight?

I’ll aim at 10kg fully loaded and not quite make it. Still changing my mind almost everyday about how much warm clothing to take - everything else is sorted.

Re: What is your rucksack weight?

I have just spent 4 days in Edinburgh... I think it has gained 20lbs but it could also be all the Scottish pies I have ate.. Haha.

Re: What is your rucksack weight?

OK, you folks are experts in backpacking and pack weight control, explain this one to me......why does a half litre of water and a bar of chocolate weigh 750g, but if you drink the water and eat the chocolate, it weighs nothing?......

Re: What is your rucksack weight?

I got a bit tired of weighing things. Best estimate is a bit over 11 kg including 1.5l water and about 10k calories.
