Oban starters

When I did the Challenge in 2016, some fellow Oban starters met up for a drink beforehand, which was a nice way to start off. We met in the Lorne Bar, in Stevenson Street, and it was a good way to meet people who then popped up at various places along the hills and glens to Montrose.. Do any Oban starters fancy meeting up this time?

Re: Oban starters

Sounds like a good plan Annie but can you remember what the standard of ale is at the Lorne? Is it better than the standard west of Scotland ice cold and tasteless rubbish? I'm happy to meet there if I'm mistaken but my own preference would be for Wetherspoons near the station, which has a wide range of fine ales and reasonably priced food.

Re: Oban starters

Annie and Colin: we would be happy to meet up for drink/eats at Wetherspoons, if that turns out to suit. I am almost certainly not able to do the Challenge this year due to metatarsalgia, which I am only just mastering with special orthotics, but Mike is doing it and I'll be with him at the start.

Re: Oban starters

Hi Annie
I agree with Colin and Marian, I went to Wetherspoons last year and I am planning to go there again this year. The food is reasonably and it is quiet enough to chat with other challengers.

Re: Oban starters

Sounds like a plan, happy to meet up where the majority go.

Re: Oban starters

Well, I can't remember being particularly offended by the beer in the Lorne, though that was 2 years ago, but if Wetherspoons is the preferred choice, we can go for that. What time do those who plan to eat there expect to be there?

Re: Oban starters

I reckon we'd be aiming for Wetherspoons at around 6.30, should give plenty of time to eat, socialise and early(ish) night!

Re: Oban starters

Ok, good, see you there.
