Cumberland Campsite Fort Augustus

Does anyone know anything about Cumberland Campsite, Fort Augustus? Particularly, whether is it open at the moment?! No answer to phone/emails and the Fort William tourist office via a Fort Augustus contact said it had changed hands and was/is being refurbished. Hoping to camp there in May.

Re: Cumberland Campsite Fort Augustus

I have also been trying to get in touch with Cumberland but no joy yet!

Re: Cumberland Campsite Fort Augustus

I contacted them several months ago to book pitch, still no answer. Are they closed over winter?

Re: Cumberland Campsite Fort Augustus

Found a different email address and received this (very quick!) reply:

"Am sorry but as from last month the campsite has been sold and there are new owners in there now...

I believe they will have a new website up and running soon....

Many thanks"

With any luck there will a new website and more information soon...

Re: Cumberland Campsite Fort Augustus

I was wondering about this place as well... I had it wrote down for my stay that night there.

Re: Cumberland Campsite Fort Augustus

Oh, that's good info... Might have to book something for Fort Augustus then or camp in the wild outside of town.

Re: Cumberland Campsite Fort Augustus

From local info I believe the campsite should reopen for the start of May but when I walked past it on Friday it was looking like a bit of construction site so I'm not sure if that will happen...

I'll ask around the village and see if I can find out anymore!

If not, there are some nice spots down by the Loch which are easily accessible now thanks to a new path, there's also some nice places near the forestry office at Auchterawe!

Re: Cumberland Campsite Fort Augustus

Thanks Sally, that's really helpful 😊

Re: Cumberland Campsite Fort Augustus

i was going to do the same but now have booked a bed in Morag's Lodge which is just 24 pounds. The campsite would have been 10 anyway. See you on the TGO! Dara

Re: Cumberland Campsite Fort Augustus

What new path are you referring to?

Re: Cumberland Campsite Fort Augustus

As part of the new Stronelairig Windfarm project (I know, I hate wind farms too...) the contractor has built a new path running out of the village from the Abbey, over the River Tarff and through the fields which run down to Loch Ness, it then continues up the hill towards Glen Doe and the new wind farm..
