Re: Best way from Inverness to Shiel Bridge?

Hi Kent

I used the bus from Inverness to Shiel Bridge last year. You will need to change once and there are likely to be other challengers onboard. It probably won't be completely full but I would book a seat in advance. The good alternative is to take the train to Kyle of Lochalsh which is very scenic then a bus or hitch South to Shiel Bridge. The bus drops you off not far from the campsite and shop but most people gather along at the Kintail Lodge Hotel, which is where you sign out from. If you want to camp there are great pitches along the lochside track from the hotel and on the peninsular beyond.

Re: Best way from Inverness to Shiel Bridge?

Frankly I'd go with Willie's suggestion of train Inverness > Kyle of Lochalsh then bus back east to Shiel Bridge. But for this you'd have to catch the 13:35 train out of Inverness - arrives Kyle of Lochalsh at 16:12. Bus is service 917 Skye > Glasgow, leaves Kyle at 16:25 from outside the station. Arrives Shiel Bridge 16:49.

There's a later train from Inverness at 17:54 arriving 20:31 - for this you'd have to hitch to Shiel Bridge.

Re: Best way from Inverness to Shiel Bridge?

Hi Kent
I'll be on the 17.10 bus out of Inverness on the 10th May number 917 which stops at Shiel Bridge and no need to change. I'll be staying on it for another 10 minutes as I'm starting from Dornie.
I got my ticket 2 weeks ago and paid £21. I'll look out for you in case you decide to go for that one.

Re: Best way from Inverness to Shiel Bridge?

Thanks everyone. Love this message board...

I like the train option too, but the chance of a late train causing a missed bus connection from Kyle makes me think the CityLink bus from Inverness is our safer option. (I could swear I saw something like 30 stops last time I looked, but now I see that only stops a few times...)

Unless I'm missing something here, I think I'll go with the CityLink bus. Looking forward to seeing some of you on May 10th! We'll be the 3 bleary-eyed yanks struggling to stay awake and taking photos of everything. ;)

Re: Best way from Inverness to Shiel Bridge?

I always take the bus and it's fine.

That's because I have a bus pass but have to pay for trains!

Don't forget to book it.

Re: Best way from Inverness to Shiel Bridge?

Thanks everyone. We went with the rail & bus option. All booked!
