Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

I can't help but notice that these pictures of the Highlands in Spring share a common chromatic theme. Perhaps Alan could publish a book for us TGOC masochists.

Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

Sitting on the train (on my way to visit my mum before my daunder) trying to figure out where that piccy was taken. I find mainly links to your blog, Alan, and by now I've read about fingers, wind farms, blacks, first aid kits - but nothing about coire na cabaig. Please help a girl(?) in need!

Oh, nice thing with my visit - I'll be able to try out my tent as well, we have close to a meter of snow in our garden still!

Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

Hi Ulla

:slightly_smiling_face:

Pleased to help a fellow Challenger!

You can find Coire na Cabaig by typing it into the search box near the top on the RHS of my blog. It produces this day from our 2013 Challenge from Oban to St Cyrus:

TGO Challenge 2013: Day 4: To Tulloch

Have a wonderful Daunder - we're setting off on ours this coming Thursday - and an excellent first Challenge.

Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

Just 18 days (depending on which day you're starting)!

Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

Akshully, it's the un-named caochan that runs into the Burn of Mohamed that in turn runs into the Allt Darrarie.

LOCH BEORAID: RIGHT CLICK TO ENLARGE IN A NEW TAB

It was TEN DAYS this morning!

:sunny: :mostly_sunny: :partly_sunny: :barely_sunny: :partly_sunny_rain: :cloud: :rain_cloud: :thunder_cloud_and_rain: :lightning: :zap:

Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

There are few mountains or lochs I can recognise from photos. I'm just not very good at remembering which one is which, but Loch Beoraid is instantly recognisable to me and brings me out in a cold sweat as I recall my first crossing in 2006. Argh! Black Hole of Beoraid!

Good luck to anyone going that way this year and remember:- if you're a new Challenger and feeling a little overawed by the event, don't lose faith in your ability to navigate. It's possible that the Very Experienced Challengers you're walking with are lost!

That was a tough first day, but I'm over the trauma now. Honest. :scream:
