Re: Loch Ossian

David,

I thought I'd email the hostel for you. This is their reply...

"We regret that camping is not allowed within the immediate vicinity of the hostel.

Sorry I can’t be of more help.

Jan Robinson

Manager

Loch Ossian Youth Hostel"

I walked there once from Kinlochleven and camped on Loch Trieg (NNW of Loch Ossian). It becomes part of a managed estate, which is why I think camping begins to become difficult around there.

Re: Loch Ossian

I will point you to the Scottish Access Code's section on wild camping:

Scottish Outdoor Access Code: Wild Camping

As long as you are away from habitation (including the SYH, of course) you can camp more or less anywhere you like. There are some wonderful spots alongside Loch Ossian.

Re: Loch Ossian

Alan,

Any good spots along the North shore of the Loch?

Ive only walked along the south side.

Re: Loch Ossian

Hi Gavin

It's been a long time since I walked along the north shore of Loch Ossian - 1997 with Bob Butler - but I have dug out my ancient map and I had marked a couple of decent spots between Eastings 38 and 39 if that helps.

However, you'll have a sunnier start to your day if you camp on the south shore.

And looking at Geograph, this looks like a stunner on the north shore at Easting 395:

Yes, that's what I thought Alan. Thanks for confirming it.

Re: Loch Ossian

Thanks for your input everyone.

Re: Loch Ossian

I looked at the headland posted earlier when I went that way last year, but there wasn't a flat spot. I eventually camped towards the east end on the north side in a lovely wooded area on the loch edge next to a stream.

I'll see if I can get a grid ref for you.

Re: Loch Ossian

NN403692 , you'll pass a really obvious cascading stream to the left of the track, then just drop down to the loch shore to the right. You've gone to far if you pass through the gate at the east end of the loch.

Re: Loch Ossian

Here's a better view of the spot.
