Re: Highland Estates, greed & the loss of wild land

This is the problem that we have in Scotland....http://www.dpea.scotland.gov.uk/CaseDetails.aspx?id=118049.
A very typical example of the Scottish Government, through their dancing puppets at the DPEA totally ignoring public opinion (in fact according to the Reporter they should not take into account public objections) and the fact that the Cairngorms National Park Authority objected.
He even objects to the conclusion that endless windfarms are bad for tourism.
As a result of this decision the local authority, Perth & Kinross, are now faced with a compensation claim. I know for a fact that planners in Aberdeenshire are scared to reject windfarm applications because they just get over-ruled anyway at great cost and presumably the same is the case in other areas. It is a sad fact that DPEA over-rule a very large percentage of windfarm planning consent refusals and it is just a routine that the windfarm speculators go through.

Is there any wonder that landowners are tempted to trash their land for the windustry shilling!!?

Those of you living South of the border, how lucky you are to have a planning system which allows residents to object to and prevent inappropriate industrial windfarms, here in Scotland we have a dictatorial system where the Government know best.

Cairngorm planners may block Queen’s bid to build new hydro power plant at Balmoral
[urlhttp://www.scottishenergynews.com/[/url Subscription required

"Plans by Queen Elizabeth for permission to create a new small-hydro power energy scheme on her estate at Balmoral have been called in by the Cairngorms National Park Authority.
Balmoral Estates wants to build a 2-MW turbine to generate power worth up to £650,000 a year from the River Muick, which runs through the property.
Aberdeenshire Council has also raised objections to the queen’s plan because of concerns over the impact that construction noise on building the scheme would have on wildlife.
A council spokesman said: “We are concerned that there may be noise emission from the proposals which could be detrimental to the amenity of neighbouring noise-sensitive receptors.
"Typically hydropower turbines can emit significant amounts of noise.
"The noise information currently provided in the environmental statement offers no measurements of the current background noise nor any site-specific predictions.”
Construction work would last two years and involve the installation of a 30ft salmon ladder to enable the fish to swim upstream.
Balmoral Estates has offered to restrict workers’ hours on the protected site to avoid disturbing otters in the early morning and late at night and said there would not be any significant impact on nearby habitats.
But the Cairngorms Park Authority has called in the application because it raises "issues of significance".
Even if the authority rejects the queen’s planning application, this will likely be over-ruled by the Scottish Energy Minister in any subsequent appeal."

Note the comment about appeal, that is the sad situation about planning law in Scotland. It doesn't matter what local people, or even the national park authority want, it is what Wee Krankie and her fascist chums want that counts.
