Appoaching Maole Bhuide From the North

Starting from Strathcarron my route goes through the Attadale Forest, past Bendronaig Lodge before leaving the path at the far end of Loch Calavie.

The last time I went this way I crossed boggy ground in the SE direction before fording a river to take the path that runs from the Maole Bhuide bothy to Pair Lodge. This was pretty wet and boggy (I know — I didn't' necessarily have to ford the river but hey ...)

My query is this. If I leave Loch Calve but travel S I could take the path to Ben Droning but leave it and continue S across what looks like better ground towards Loch Cruoshie. I would still have to cross the Allt an Loin Fhiodha either to the East or West of the little Loch.

An alternative might be to take the path S from Bendronaig lodge and then make my way East along the Allt an Loin Fhiodha to the bothy.

Has anyone been this way before?

Yep... Al, I and Lilo did this several years back. The ground was ok until near the loch, then it gets quite tufty. Crossing the tributary of the loch can be an issue when water high at the East end. It gets very silted nearer the loch and can be deep moving away.
That said, we all got across safely.

Ta. The route I took before was pretty similar! I must remember my habit of sinking into bog ....

You didn't mention the wire bridge. I'm with Al.

Re: Appoaching Maole Bhuide From the North

The wire bridge has gone. It has been replaced by quite a substantial bridge now.

Those were the days boys, don't go on forum much & haven't done a chally for a couple of years. Will get back into it.
Went to Moel Bhuide & "your" route (before I went off East last year on Cape wrath trail
