Re: Mar Lodge

Accommodation can only be booked in the Old Stables (Base Camp) by groups. Minimum stay 2 nights.
0844 493 2108 for details.

Re: Mar Lodge

To follow up from Louise, we should know in the final details if camping is allowed.
If you don't want to crack on to Braemar (where there will be pubs and great socialising), then there are places to pitch up just short of the Linn of Dee to the right, by the river.

Re: Mar Lodge

Mar Lodge dont seem to allow camping as far as Im aware, which is a pity as they have a rather fine large area of flat grass for camping on!

Re: Mar Lodge

Hello Everybody

To make it clear - there is no camping at Mar Lodge for Challengers. They do provide teas and coffees in the Stable Block and they will accept re-supply parcels, which is helpful if you want to wild camp somewhere after visiting here. We do explain what they have to offer in the Event Details.....

Re: Mar Lodge

Thanks for the replies folks :relaxed:

I shall continue to look at breaking up the long day. Don't really fancy a 22 mile day from Ruigh-aiteachain in Glen Feshie all the way to Braemar.

Re: Mar Lodge

Few options between the ruined red bothy and White Bridge-Linn of Dee.

Re: Mar Lodge

There’s a good place to camp 1.5km after White Bridge https://blogpackinglight.wordpress.com/2017/06/14/tgo-challenge-2017-day-9/

Re: Mar Lodge

Decent camping spots up by the ruins of Geldie Lodge

Re: Mar Lodge

Especially if you want company😉

Re: Mar Lodge

As Andrew says, there's scope in the woods before Linn of Dee particularly if your tent has a smallish footprint. After Linn of Dee but before Mar Lodge there's space in the woods to the right of the road but it gets a bit public. If you're not going to Braemar but staying north of the river there's options shortly after Mar Lodge.

Re: Mar Lodge

Excellent! I now have some spots in mind and will decide on the day depending on how we are feeling.

Thank you!

Re: Mar Lodge

Just to add a warning to anyone planning to send a food parcel to Mar Lodge - last year they locked up at 5.00 sharp - I only just got there on time and otherwise would have either been very hungry or had to walk into Braemar. There wasn't any info about this last year - not sure if that has been corrected this year?
