Re: Camping between Falls of Glomach and Alltbeithe

In 2015 I camped with Emma at a spot just beyond the Falls of Glomach. 2017 I camped in Gleann Gniomhaidh. There are other places to camp in between too. You can see them on my blog and get a feel for the landscape in between

Re: Camping between Falls of Glomach and Alltbeithe

I camped at NH 024 255 - probably same as Robin + Emma. The ground between there and the head of Loch a' Bhealaich can be a tad grisly and wet.

Re: Camping between Falls of Glomach and Alltbeithe

Dornie to our camping spot above the Falls of Glomach is a reasonable first day. Beyond there and into Glen Affric is quite slow going although not too bad if you keep above the floor of the glen. It would be quite a long day to go much beyond the Falls of Glomach. The Falls of Glomach are well worth seeing.

Re: Camping between Falls of Glomach and Alltbeithe

How is the path that climbs up the the of the falls?
Ive heard of some conflicting reports, but im sure, that being an experienced hillwalker that it shouldnt be a problem.

Re: Camping between Falls of Glomach and Alltbeithe

I thought the path was pretty easy. A bit of exposure in places but nothing too serious. Might be a bit slippery in places in wet weather. It would be tricky in snow! If you’re experienced, you shouldn’t find it a problem. It was one of the highlights of my crossing.

Re: Camping between Falls of Glomach and Alltbeithe

I went up the path on last years challenge and I didn't find it to be much of a problem. As Robin says, there's a bit of exposure and my vettor warned me it could be tricky in high winds, but I didn't think it was that bad. I've done far worse!

As for camping, I did this last year and if you follow the river Abhainn Gaorsaic towards Loch Thuill you will find some nice firm bits to camp on.

Re: Camping between Falls of Glomach and Alltbeithe

Like Paul, I did the Falls and found it a lovely route. A couple of precarious bits but nothing especially challenging in decent weather, though some parts of the path were eroding rapidly. If you're starting at Dornie reaching Allbeithe will be doable due to the Glennan path + following path track being such a fast route, but note after the falls the ground becomes much slower and this may be bit of the slog if the weather is poor. That said, I'm a proponent of HYOH (Hike Your Own Hike) and your own pace/route plan will dictate what feels most comfortable.
