Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

Thirty Weeks...

Those five weeks flew by.

Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

Whoops! It's actually twenty nine weeks. Time is certainly flying.

Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

OHHHH that is so beautiful!!!! I can't wait to meet everyone and see that beautiful country!!!!!

Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

So beautiful. No-one has ever said that about me before. Thank you, Holly.

And yes, the countryside in the background also has its charms.

Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

HAHAHA.. You are too funny!!!

Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

Hi Holly

That's just what Miss Whiplash would say... (Phil's better half) but the 'Ha!` would be more triumphal...

Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

Quite right, Alan. I shall keep the ill-judged attempts at humour to myself in future.

It was taken about half a mile north of Meanach Bothy (heading over on the path to Lairig Leacach Bothy) looking south west to the Mamores.

But since they don't even have bold buttons I mean.....

Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

That's very pretty, Darling, but the earliest you can start is the Friday... (and if you go to Oban, you'll miss walking for two weeks with Lord Elpus and me, who'll be at Kilchoan)

I meant to put 21.00 Wed which is just short of our sleeper train time. :smirk:
I tried to put Kilchoan, but the timer thingy only recognised Glasgow and Oban

Nah, plenty of time left. And anyway, it's awfully chilly and wet out there.

Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

Much too hot to even think about it. Better to stay inside with a cold beer.

Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

Sitting on the train (on my way to visit my mum before my daunder) trying to figure out where that piccy was taken. I find mainly links to your blog, Alan, and by now I've read about fingers, wind farms, blacks, first aid kits - but nothing about coire na cabaig. Please help a girl(?) in need!

Oh, nice thing with my visit - I'll be able to try out my tent as well, we have close to a meter of snow in our garden still!

Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

Hi Ulla

:slightly_smiling_face:

Pleased to help a fellow Challenger!

You can find Coire na Cabaig by typing it into the search box near the top on the RHS of my blog. It produces this day from our 2013 Challenge from Oban to St Cyrus:

TGO Challenge 2013: Day 4: To Tulloch

Have a wonderful Daunder - we're setting off on ours this coming Thursday - and an excellent first Challenge.

Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

Just 18 days (depending on which day you're starting)!

LOCH BEORAID: RIGHT CLICK TO ENLARGE IN A NEW TAB

It was TEN DAYS this morning!

:sunny: :mostly_sunny: :partly_sunny: :barely_sunny: :partly_sunny_rain: :cloud: :rain_cloud: :thunder_cloud_and_rain: :lightning: :zap:

Re: TGOC2018 Countdown

There are few mountains or lochs I can recognise from photos. I'm just not very good at remembering which one is which, but Loch Beoraid is instantly recognisable to me and brings me out in a cold sweat as I recall my first crossing in 2006. Argh! Black Hole of Beoraid!

Good luck to anyone going that way this year and remember:- if you're a new Challenger and feeling a little overawed by the event, don't lose faith in your ability to navigate. It's possible that the Very Experienced Challengers you're walking with are lost!

That was a tough first day, but I'm over the trauma now. Honest. :scream:
