Re: Argyll hill fires

How heavy is this rain going to be??

I'm heading for Oban bothy on Friday ... hope I don't get trapped again.

Assuming I can continue ... I'm then going by way of Corryhully and Inver Mallie. Let's hope it's not awash ...

Re: Argyll hill fires

getting mixed reports about how much rain is forecast, but you can be sure that it'll be just enough to stir up the midges. I know it's not within the TGO corridor but it's another example of a fire popping up, another one on the outskirts of Dumbarton yesterday afternoon. Be safe with your stoves!

Re: Argyll and Sutherland hill fires, rain and ticks

Just to add that we have had similar weather in Sutherland for the last couple of weeks, with a massive fire lasting 5 days near and on Suilven (thankfully now out) and I heard of a further one near Oykel Bridge yesterday.

I guess Ross-shire and Lochaber are likely to be similar, so we should all probably take local advice when we arrive at the start points.

On the (sort of) plus side it is damp and grey today and getting damper.

One warning: the dog has picked up many more ticks than usual after the mild winter and even I (who am fortunate to be insufficiently tasty for the bloodsuckers in normal times) found one on me yesterday. I blame it on falling asleep in the tent after putting it up to remind myself how to!

Have a great (and safe) crossing, all those lucky enough to be setting off on Friday.
