Reading material

Hi everyone,

Very much looking forward to getting started on the challenge this week! I'm looking for some evening reading material and figure this is the group to ask. Any recommendations for books about hiking or Scotland or preferably hiking across Scotland? Something entertaining- novel or travelogue perhaps?- not so interested in geological formations of the western highlands or endangered bird species of Scotland.

Thanks a lot and see you on the challenge!

Melissa

Re: Reading material

Walking the Watershed.

Re: Reading material

Cheryl Strayed - Wild (you'll be able to sympathise with her blisters :))
or Nan Shepherd - Living Mountain (nice and light!)

Re: Reading material

Hi Melissa,

You may find inspiration in Mr Grumpy's recommended reading list HERE

If you're travelling on the sleeper, then Josephine Tey's "The Singing Sands" is a fun read, especially if you like vintage crime novels.

Re: Reading material

Thanks everyone, some great recommendations here! Will stock up the Kindle.

Re: Reading material

I recommend Robert Louis Stevenson's "Kidnapped", for a classic Challenge crossing of Scotland, plus lots of skulduggery, drinking , gambling, and general mayhem.
