TGO Song Lyrics

The TGO Song

Chorus:

I can’t stop now I’ve 20 miles to go
I’m walking East along the tracks I’m on the TGO
Oh, I can’t stop now I’ve 20 miles to go
I’m walking East along the tracks I’m on the TGO

Come gather ‘round me people
And a story I will tell
Of 300 Challenge heroes
On the road to heaven or hell
They start out in the West
And end at the North Sea
Why they come back every year
Is a total mystery

Chorus

From the hills out in the West
to the Great Glen and the rest
Whatever route you choose
Will surely put you to the test
From the Caringorms craggy heights
To the lowlands of the coast
It’s really hard to see which bit of Scotland I like most

Chorus

Now some they walk so fast
And some they walk so slow
Some sleep in wigwams
Some in palaces of gold
And some they walk so high
And some they walk so low
But on the TGO East is the only way to go

Chorus

Not if while yomping on Monadhliath peat
You come across a shabby fella
Resting his weary feet
Don’t fret at his appearance
You’ll see that he’s a friend
This ‘aint no celtic wizard
But our own Chrissie Townsend

Chorus

And when you’ve walked so long
And when you’ve walked so far
There’s never a finer sight
Than a famous Challenge bar
There’s Croydon in the corner
Denis Pigeon at his side
they’ll tell you the tallest stories
Andy you’ll laugh until you cry

Chorus

And up at Callater Lodge
You never can go wrong
For just a nod and a wink
John Joycs will sing you a song
There’s beardie in the corner
Clearly lived a life of sin
Some say that it’s the devil
But it’s Sloman on sloe gin

Chorus

As we walk across the mountains
We’re never on our own
The team at Challenge Control
Can always track you down
They provide their inspiration
To keep us on our path
But ignore them at your peril
Or face their fiery wrath

Chorus

When it’s over in Montrose
It’s whiskey all around
Challenge heroes to be crowned
And old friends to be found
And when it’s time to go
You’ll see us shed a tear
But there’s never any doubt
We’ll all be back again next year

Re: TGO Song Lyrics

Thank you Andy!

Re: TGO Song Lyrics

Yes, clearly an homage to our alternative National Bard, William Topaz McGonagall. His website today features his ode to Montrose. " Beautiful town of Montrose, I will now commence my lay, and I will write in praise of thee without dismay." Great stuff, it would make a strong man greet.

Re: TGO Song Lyrics

Good to know that you can get a lay in Montrose . . .
