Petition to save the Laggan shop and cafe

Please support the petition to save the shop and café at Laggan and please write to your Westminster MP and your Holyrood MSPs if you're in Scotland.
Petition is at https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/170137

The Zeilsdorf family face deportation from Laggan. The Zeilsdorfs are a Canadian family who have invested their time and cash to refurbish and open a superb cafe and shop in the village of Laggan which is on the A86, southwest of Newtonmore. They have fully integrated into the community, their 3 kids are at school there, they support activities in the village and employ one additional person. The service and facilities they offer are second to none and without them the shop would probably close with no other facilities being available for quite a number of miles. The family are very supportive of hillwalkers, cyclists and long distance hikers (especially TGOCers, all of whom help the local economy. The Zeilsdorfs are now facing deportation in the first week of May, before they are able to sell up.

This is a tragedy for them, the local community want them to stay and the only reason they are being forced to leave is because they've failed to meet a criterion being imposed upon them by faceless bureaucrats. I fully realise that this country has issues with immigration and I completely support having controls that allow people in that add value and not those that don't. The Zeilsdorfs clearly add significant value to the community and to the economy.

Re: Petition to save the Laggan shop and cafe

We now have the answer: Scotland to join Canada! See BBC news at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-39570585

Re: Petition to save the Laggan shop and cafe

The Minister in London dealing with this case is Robert Goodwill and he can be contacted at robert.goodwill.mp@parliament.uk
The Scottish MP who has been most supportive is Drew Hendry and he can be contacted at drew.hendry.mp@parliament.uk

Emailing both these MPs may well help the Zeilsdorfs. Petition now up in the 700s.

Simon.
