Laggan Stores Coffee Bothy Update

I've been in contact with Jason and Christy today and unfortunately they have informed me that their shop will be closing on April 14th, and that they have been forced to leave the country on May 4th.
This is very unfortunate news, but thought I would share in case anybody like myself was planning on picking up some supplies on their way through.

Re: Laggan Stores Coffee Bothy Update

This is an absolute tragedy! Jason and his family have put so much into the wee community at Laggan and yet they are being deported back to Canada ... another huge fail by the Home Office!!! :-(

Re: Laggan Stores Coffee Bothy Update

For what it is worth, this petition in support of Laggan Stores runs until May 4.

It has 34 signatures, and needs 10,000 to get some acknowledgement from the government.

Could a late push from challengers and their networks of friends tip the total over 10,000? It would be great if it could. Either way people can show their support for the family and express their disgust at how shoddily the family have been treated by the great British bureaucrat.

Re: Laggan Stores Coffee Bothy Update

10,000 signatures is a huge number but here's a link to the petition to make it easier for anyone who'd like to sign.

Re: Laggan Stores Coffee Bothy Update

It's 47 now

Re: Laggan Stores Coffee Bothy Update

This is a real shame! I can not add my name as I am not a UK Citizen. I visited them on 2 crossings.

Re: Laggan Stores Coffee Bothy Update

402 now.

Re: Laggan Stores Coffee Bothy Update

510 and counting.... blistering stuff

Re: Laggan Stores Coffee Bothy Update

I've signed it and shared it with friends and colleagues. Really hope they could stay.

Re: Laggan Stores Coffee Bothy Update

This family was very supportive during my 2015 crossing, held a food parcel for me, and obviously were putting in a lot of cash and energies into creating a fantastic shop and café. I've visited a number of times since and in my view they very much deserve to stay.
I've just signed the petition and shared on Facebook.

If we all share on our Facebook pages and ask our 'friends' to share then it will soon go viral. Here's hoping.

Total just passed 600

Re: Laggan Stores Coffee Bothy Update

I've also contacted the "Press and Journal" who cover that area. Anyone else have newspaper contacts to help publicise this?

Re: Laggan Stores Coffee Bothy Update

A few years ago I attended the wedding of a former colleague. Her husband is now an MP. I have just e-mailed him a link to the petition, told him a bit of the background, and asked if he would see what he can do, share it with friends and contacts, maybe even speak to his SNP counterparts about it.

You never know ...

(have also signed the petition)

Re: Laggan Stores Coffee Bothy Update

Well done Jeremy!

Re: Laggan Stores Coffee Bothy Update

Well done folks and an extra well-done to Simon Sawers:

The total has just shot through 1,500 and counting.
In the past 24 hours 600 signatures have been added, which is heartening.

It would be fantastic to make 10,000 signatures, but even if we fall short the level of support as it stand is some paltry comfort to the Zeilsdorf family.

Re: Laggan Stores Coffee Bothy Update

And now, Andy, just hit 1,720.
Fantastic. Love to know what has caused the spur in the past 24 hours and maybe harness it some more.

1920+ now.
And I just put it up on Twitter.
Let's hope the numbers rise.
It is DESK JOCKEY bureaucracy gone mad as usual.
NO common sense used.
Just bloody JOBSWORTH approach.
