Was wondering this myself Laura, didn't realise they allowed camping at the hotel. No longer allowed then I take it.

Re: Starting at Strathcarron

Well I've had conflicting information...don't like to ask in case they refuse! I'll probably just turn up and hope!!!

Re: Starting at Strathcarron

Wise course of action, I think. The prospect of selling you food and drink might encourage them.

Re: Starting at Strathcarron

The last time I started at Strathcarron I camped on Mad'n'Bad's floor, as it was hosing it down outside with gale force winds.

The swine wouldn't give up his bed. And to top it, the next morning he faffed about for hours sending a 3kg parcel of unwanted clothes home from the post office. I think we eventually left around lunch time.

Re: Starting at Strathcarron

Well, there is another strategy. I will be arriving at Strathcarron in the afternoon, have a nice meal and a pint at the hotel and then head off into the hills. My plan is to walk a couple of hours and pitch my tent somewhere. More chance of a quiet night that way then next to a hotel too :-)......

Greetings from Holland,
Andre Hilhorst

Re: Starting at Strathcarron

That sounds ideal...but there's a signing out to be done in the morning after 9 a.m.

Re: Starting at Strathcarron

Hi Laura, you made me jump! But I'll be starting the Friday afternoon, that should be all right?

Yours,
Andre Hilhorst

Re: Starting at Strathcarron

Absolutely...sorry didn't realise you meant Friday...I'm arriving Thursday afternoon.

Re: Starting at Strathcarron

No problem Laura, I was the one that wasn't specific :-). I guess I will be alone the first few days, all of you speeding ahead by one day. Nice actually, I'll be enjoying the solitude. That will be so great after the stress of work and commuting.....

Hope to meet one day on the hills!

Re: Starting at Strathcarron

Hi Laura,

I was wondering the same thing. I had emailed the hotel about a possible room reservation (no luck - fully booked), and I also asked about camping. I heard back that the hotel is under new ownership. The woman who wrote me back said she'd ask the new owner about camping, and here is what she wrote today:

"I have spoken to the new owner and he has said that you are welcoming to camp, we have an area adjacent to the hotel or a small area in the grounds of the hotel that you can use."

So, it sounds like camping will be possible this year. I'm not sure how big the area is, but hopefully it can fit all of us roomless folks.

Re: Starting at Strathcarron

Great news Susan...well done for asking!
