Resupply - Spean Bridge

I always need to rely on resupply parcels, as a gluten-and-lactose free diet is not easily catered for at your average Highland village shop. In the past I have always sent my resupply parcels to my overnight stop over points; but this year I shall be using bothies all the way to Dalwhinnie. So I need to sort out an intermediate resupply point.

I shall be passing through Spean Bridge early in the afternoon on day 4, and this looks like the ideal place to send a resupply parcel - if I can find anyone who will be happy to receive and hold it for me.

Does anyone know of any challenger-friendly place in Spean Bridge that I might approach?

Re: Resupply - Spean Bridge

How about the post office "Post Restante" service.
You could always phone them to confirm they still exist.

Re: Resupply - Spean Bridge

Oooohhh ... do they still do that??

Yes, if so, that makes best sense, doesn't it?

Can you do a Recorded Delivery poste restante to be certain that it has got there?? Or will they wait and ask for you to sign for it when you arrive to pick it up, thus defeating the whole point of doing it?? Anybody know??

Re: Resupply - Spean Bridge

Another option would be to hop on a bus or train to FW, depending on time table and do your shopping in Morrisons. I did this years ago and, OK, it did take about 3 hours but I bought exactly what I needed and had a good hot meal into the bargain. Also I reckon I saved enough on the shopping to pay for the bus fares!

Re: Resupply - Spean Bridge

Hmmmmm ... the Royal Mail website has THIS to say about post restante:

Just go to your designated Post Office branch to pick up your post.

If you’re visiting the UK from abroad, bring your passport as a form of identification.

If you live in the UK, you'll also need to show proof of your address as well as your passport.

Do they REALLY mean what they say ... i.e. people living in the UK and sending post restante to the UK must bring both their passport and proof of address to collect it??

I don't HAVE a passport ...

Re: Resupply - Spean Bridge

When I have collected items from a PO they have always accepted my photo driving licence as proof of identity. They also, sometimes, have asked for the shipping number when the item has been ordered on the internet but in your case they may ask for proof of posting, you would have to confirm this with them.

Thanks, Peter - that's very helpful!
