Re: Ca-du Ford

Jean,

Back in 2000, I came off the Corbett Geal Charn down to The Castles, then headed down the Water of Ailnack making for Bridge of Brown. The Ailnack is very impressive here, The Castles a rocky feature and the river runs through a gorge. On the way to Ca-du ford, I was compelled to ford the river several times to avoid repeated craggy obstacles. On a day of low water conditions, this was perfectly possible, though I'd stress that my boots and lower legs were soaked through. Had the Ailnack been in spate or with even a partial increase in flow, the route would not have gone. Ca-du ford is clearly little frequented in modern times, though I did find a sketchy path on the west bank as shown on the map.

After gaining Glen Brown, I was drenched by a deluge of rain, making me thankful that I was clear of the gorge - not a place to be if heavy rain is imminent.

Hope that helps - or perhaps not!

Colin
