Re: Cumberlands Campsite Fort Augustus

I've stayed there on a number of occasions - both on and outwith The Challenge. It was purpose-built about ten years ago in Skandi-style by a local builder and hill-enthusiast, and to my mind is excellent. In addition to the camping area there's a block with a number of 2 and 4-person rooms, a large lounge area (with TV and good cooking facilities), a first-class shower block and a restaurant/bar (not always open, but it's but ten minutes back to the town centre). It's clean and built to a high standard.

They take in tents, bikers and mobiles - which gives a good mix of folks. No statics.

They're not open during the winter season. But you can just rock up - no need to book unless yr looking for a room.

Re: Cumberlands Campsite Fort Augustus

Thanks for that. Maybe I'm just being a bit keen trying to contact them this early! It doesn't seem to say on their website that they close in the winter, but that's obviously why I'm not getting any reply from them. If booking isn't essential then, I'll stop faffing about it!

Re: Cumberlands Campsite Fort Augustus

I'd echo what Humphrey says - we have stayed there - we rocked up at 12.15am (long story!) and pitched fine - we also picked up a parcel from the campsite we'd sent there too. :)

Thanks, Vicky. You've both given positive replies, so that's good! I had visions of getting there and finding it no longer existed...
