OS Map number and Grid Reference

Hi there, I'm planning my route with RouteBuddy. It's going well (before vetting :-)) but I can't work out how to convert something like +57.4043 -4.9010 to OS Map number and Grid reference.

I must be a very bad Google-user, but I really am lost... Help please!

Re: OS Map number and Grid Reference

Hi Andre
Check out this link from OSGB, should give you all you need to know
https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/getoutside/guides/beginners-guide-to-grid-references/

Good luck

Re: OS Map number and Grid Reference

Go to "Route Buddy" > " Preferences" , set "Coordinate Format" to OS Grid. Then the OS grid two letter and 10 digit reference should come up in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. At least it does on my copy.
Good luck.

Re: OS Map number and Grid Reference

To identify the OS sheet numbers 1:50000, see Humphreys post on message board or try this link

http://www.walkingclub.org.uk/OS-maps/Landranger/index_map.shtml

When you are approx location you can scale down to view more info allowing you to identify sheet number

Re: OS Map number and Grid Reference

Why not just use the Ordnance Survey website?
https://osmaps.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/osmaps/

If you enter a Lat/ long reference into the search box in the format 56.8762572609,-5.3215554206 it will centre the map on that point and you then click on the "Grid Ref" tool and a pin is dropped showing the full OS Grid ref.

Conversely, with the grid ref tool enabled, you can centre the cross hairs on a map feature, or enter an OS grid reference into the search box and the lat/long coordinates will appear in the URL at the top of the page. The two digit number after the comma is the zoom level of the map on display.

If you are a registered user, planning and storing a route on the OS website is really easy and gives you a printout of waypoints and elevation changes.

Re: OS Map number and Grid Reference

That was fast, thank you very much, I have it all sorted now!
