Re: what is your favourite wee dram

Glenfiddich 15 year Malt.

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

My research for the perfect dram is still ongoing but have fond memories of being introduced to lagavulin by Jim on last year's challenge & am currently enjoying Highland Park thanks to a recommendation from Gus.

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

very nice and for the second night?? ha ha ha

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

Highland park is a very nice tipple

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

Yorkshire Gold Tea, blended just down the road in Harrogate.
A teabag is far lighter than a container of Scotch - or am I missing something ?!

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

Ardbeg's Uigeadail for me. Bought my bottle today now all I have to do is not drink any of it until the 13th.

Ian C.

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

Have to agree with Ian C - the Ardbeg Uigheadail really hits the spot (and kills all known germs, very important if there's a cold or cough in the offing). Ian, I tracked down a bottle last autumn to sustain me for the house move. Apart from that, anything cask strength with a good punchy flavour will do, nothing too refined!

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

I should possibly add that it's not that I don't drink, or that I don't drink at all on the Challenge, just not in my tent when I'm cold, it doesn't appeal... My tipple is Tamdhu, but I'll happily take a wee Cardhu, or Glenmorangie, or Jura, well, quite a few, actually.

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

Alcohol is frowned upon on the Challenge and any whisky carried is likely to be consumed, er, I mean confiscated by the Vetters. An exception is of course made for Islay malts which all contain seaweed and bogplant nutrients essential for glossy hair and glowing skin.

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

Hi Stefan,

As I don't know any Whiskies well I tend to take what I have around - normally a single malt, but I'm quite taken by some blends - and horror of horror's I quite like a nice Japanese Whiskey. But what you haven't answered Stefan is what YOUR favorite tipple is ?

BTW Just a reminder to all on this little jaunt, you can't buy Alcohol in Scotland before 10am so you can't just pop in to the supermarket on your way to your start if you leave before then. This has caught me out in the past - Rosie and I have had to fill up our container from the optics at Strathcarron - which was quite expensive to say the least. Hmmmmm not sure that doesn't sound a little desperate.

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

if the weather is bad some Laphroaig.
if the weather is sunny... i dropped a bottle of Loire valley "rosé" earlier this month at Coylumbridge campsite... just in case.

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

The very best tipple is the stuff that your walking partner has bought and carried in his rucsack. The next best tipple is the stuff that you've bought and jealously guarded.

Always ensure that your tipple is marginally less gorgeous than your walking partner's. But don't tell Phil.

English whisky always goes down extremely well at Lochcallater Lodge.

Mount Gay 10 Year Old ----- Rum

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

Blimey, Phil!

You've unearthed the secret Group Photo of the last Vetters Meeting at the Park Hotel!

Ghastly.

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

Thank God for Liquor is all I can say.

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

I was given a dram of rather excellent 18 year cask strength 2 challenges ago.
Sadly I let bloody Sloman sample it and he necked the whole lot the greedy *******

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

I agree with Alan sup my dads first and maybe share mine when his is empty. Whiskey always goes down well at callater lodge I remember last time I was there unforgettable with really nice people, and a very fuzzy head to go with it. I have been keeping a bottle for years and thought I would take it with me on this years challenge. It's a maxwell 28 year old not sure if anyone has heard of this but apparently it's quite a lovely malt

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

"Maxwell" was one of the names Lidl used for some of their own name malt whiskies. They created a storm when first launched as excellent drams at very keen prices. I suggest it is a bit too good to be offered to the drouthy cronies at Callater. Give it to your Vetter for safekeeping

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

Oh my ears and whiskers! So many drams, so little time . . .

My late father, Maurice Woolf was curiously fond of a light Lowland malt - Auchentoshan

My own taste is for Bourbon (turn away now #shudders). And my favourite right now is the very wonderful William Wolf Click here to take a look at the William Wolf website. named after the (in)famous moonshiner and travelling musician William Wolf.

And just a wee reminder that The Werewolves of The Upper Dulnain plan a Monster Cookout at our lair Wednesday 18 May. Email me off-forum for directions, heh heh.

I take it Mr Lambert is talking from personal experience.

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

Ah, Ian. I am delighted to say that I have been redeemed, thanks to this excellent non-alcoholic beverage.

Just the unfortunate coke habit to get over now

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

Yes, Phil, I do believe I've had a few of these in the Mason's Arms in Tarfside of an evening. It certainly keeps the scurvy at bay.

Younger Challengers constructing a temporary shelter after the excesses of the previous few daze.

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

I tried snorting coke once but the bubbles played hell with my sinuses.

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

Yes John this is the one lidl did. Iv had it for about 6 years now and it's worth at auction about £80! because iv had it for that long it seems a shame opening it now. I have had a wee dram of maxwell before and what I can remember it was very nice. Don't underestimate lidl ha ha

Re: what is your favourite wee dram

A good Islay malt like Lagavulin or Laphroaig. I prefer mine neat but as my old grandad used to say: A finger of whisky a finger of water is the true way to drink it.
