Gas canisters in Fort Augustus?

I am struggling to recall whether we could buy GoGas or similar gas canisters last time we passed through Fort Augustus. I've a nasty feeling we could only get the CampingGas type, but we've a different stove this year and it will only fit GoGas/Primus or similar canisters. Does anyone know what our chances are of buying them in Fort Augustus?

Re: Gas canisters in Fort Augustus?

Been through Fort Augustus twice, but can't recall seeing an outdoor shop! Best bet would possibly be the petrol station/shop or post office. I suspect neither sells gas canisters and so you will either have to carry two or wait/economise gas use until Newtonmore/Aviemore?

I think it's a bet they will stock as there is campsite in the village

Re: Gas canisters in Fort Augustus?

Marion, I bought a 220g GoSystem canister last year in a shop up the hill on A82 somewhere around NH 374086. Think it was a cycle accessory shop.

Re: Gas canisters in Fort Augustus?

Thanks guys for your help. Following your leads, I rang the petrol station/trading post shop, and they no longer sell gas canisters, but the cycle/hardware shop Girvans Hardware do. They also have a range of energy bars, which could be handy for the struggle across the pathless boglands of the Monadliath! So problem solved!
