Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

I'm starting at Oban and finishing at Arbroath.

How about you guys?

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

No doubt all will be revealed in the final details!

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Cambridge.
I live there!

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Starting Dornie, finishing Stonehaven.

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

In truth..

Finish Kinaber Links

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Mallaig to Montrose as well!

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

An Dornaidh to Lunan Promenade Beach

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

From Kilchoan to St.Cyrus.

Bring us some smokies to Montrose then. ☺

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Start point is a bit vague, finish point is JoG. Denis is doing SB to Kinaber Links. I'll do that bit with him.

See you in the teashop at Charleton Andy?

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

We are hoping to get there on the Wed night.
That said, we could end up at NWB.

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

How could you even contemplate missing the Wednesday evening at N.W.B. campsite Andrew?

Ian C.

P.S. I'll see you at St Cyrus on the Thursday lunchtime.

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Officially I start at Oban and finish at Stonehaven

BUT probably, as in 2014 & 2015, I'll ignore my official endpoint and succumb to the pleasures of NWB and the social walk to the coast, probably Kinnaber Links

I'm finishing on Friday, Andrew (spending three days meandering around the plateau, collecting all the Munros East of Spittal of Glenshee and South of the Dee) ... but if you promise you'll still be there to collect them when I get to Montrose at, say, 3 p.m., I'll buy some for you.

You can't say fairer than that, can you?

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Shame Jeremy.
Haven't had any since I was rather younger, but we'll be on the train back south by midday Friday.

I am guessing you may he at the Bree Louise on the Wed.

Actually, no.

Since I am starting at Oban, I don't need to mess about with sleepers. I don't even need to get to Milton Keynes for that wretched 5.50 (or whatever it is) that I used sometimes to use. The 8.28 Bedford to Bletchley will do me just fine for the first leg of my journey on Thursday 13 May. I might even walk to either Bedford St John's or Kemptson Hardwick to pick it up (although I did buy a ticket from Bedford ... but the saving would only have been pennies had I bought it from Kempston Hardwick; and if it's raining I shall probably wish to go from Bedford).

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Shiel Bridge - Tangleha

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Oban to St Cyrus

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

First timer here. Shiel bridge to StoneHaven

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

First timer - Oban to St Cyrus.

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Jezza, If you are carrying a backpack full of fish across Scotland you should publish your route in full, so that fellow Challengers can take appropriate action. Better still, finish your Challenge in Arbroath or Auchmithie, home of the Smokie. If you prefer your haddock cold smoked Findon is the place.

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

That would be a crossing of biblical proportions :)

I think th esuggestion was that I bought the smokies when I finished at Arbroath, not that I carried them with me all the way.

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Was struggling for a start this year until I realised Kate have never started from Mallaig!

Finishing in Stonehaven and will stay there a night this year. Nice to export somewhere new!

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

From Morar (13th) to Stonehaven (26th or 27th depending on the prevailing wind).

Spanking start. The N. Morar ridge is banging :-)

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Thanks Andrew. I'm looking forward to it. I've studied the ridge from Bob's TGOC 13 video on his Back Packing Light website and also Ness 64's excellent blog of the same. Just need to see what Mother Nature brings to the party, but as I always say, "if it ain't raining, it ain't training".

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

If interested, here's some of our take on it back in 2012.
Needs reasonable weather.

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Thanks Andrew, very useful. Looks like your original plan (to cover the whole ridge) and mine are identical. Now I will just see what the weather and fortune bring....

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Mallaig to St. Cyrus here!

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

!st timer Oban to St Cyrus with as slow a pace as I can get away with. Happy to chat with fellow newbies who are doing the same route about route choices, plans for resupply, etc. Drop me a line. I am particulalry interested in hearing about choices for camping on the 1st night. Best wishes

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Depending on your route, I camped on the shore of Loch Etive at approx NN009323 after a shortish first day from Oban in 2010. Apart from some curious cows in the morning it was fine.

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Thanks that is really helpful. I will get my thinking cap on...(again!).

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Joseph

I will also be starting from Oban, as will probably many others, and it was my intention to camp at/around the grid reference mentioned by Andy.

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Let's hear it for Lochailort to St Cyrus.

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Are you trying to follow me JJ?

Ian C.

Re: Where are we all starting / finishing this year?

Apologies for the confusion, I suspect you are referring to another jj .... I'm Spartacus.... ;)

For the record my route is lochailort, corryhully, north to glen Garry, gg hostel to Kingussie , glen Feshie Braemar, south to glen lee, tart side, NWB, coast
