Re: Z Packs Duplex Shelter Question

This Challenger seems happy with the Z Packs stuff.

Re: Z Packs Duplex Shelter Question

Joe used one when he did the Challenge.

Check with David Williams what he thinks.
He has one, and has used it quite a bit in the Lakes.
Check his blogs on it.

Tis true (see my links) BUT David didn't use it on the Chally.

Mind you, Joe Valesko did use the Soloplex

Thanks Phil and Andy, much appreciated, and reassuring.

Re: Z Packs Duplex Shelter Question

That review sounds rather enthusiastic:

Thinking of investing in the Solplex tent ...

Re: Z Packs Duplex Shelter Question

I have to say that the duplex is lovely, really roomy, really light. seems very very stable when erected properly; just never used it high winds. I have zero doubt tis will change on the Challenge!

Re: Z Packs Duplex Shelter Question

The Duplex is still on my Radar.

But as I had an MLD inner already with modified solid walls,
I went for the MLD Speedmid in Cuben, and I have a friend Keith with one and know it is pretty bomber in wind, since it is almost a TS with a door :-)

I may well go and have a play with David's Duplex later in the year,if he lets me. (That is NOT a euphemism)

I still like the look of it.

Re: Z Packs Duplex Shelter Question

Well used kit on the Challenge. Good kit and Christy Rosander and her husband used one

And she is WELL 'ARD!

Reckon that is testament to it being OK!

Re: Z Packs Duplex Shelter Question

I observed Christy & Dan's tent whilst it was pitched behind the toilet block at
The Caravan Club site at Stonehaven.
Pitched with two trekking poles as supports it was, on a windy but not gale force afternoon, billowing considerably!
Dan then used another two trekking poles to tension and stabilise the side panels which greatly reduced the amount of billowing.
In many of their challenge trip photos the tent is pitched using 4 trekking poles.
Something to consider if planning to use as a solo.

Re: Z Packs Duplex Shelter Question

Blimey... how do you use 4 poles?!

Pete

Re: Z Packs Duplex Shelter Question

I think they may have used 2 for the frame and 2 to peg eye ends out.
Couple of MSR pegs would do I reckon.

I have also seen the video of Joe's pitch.
It isn't taught at all, but I reckon that is just not tensioning it down correctly.

Re: Z Packs Duplex Shelter Question

There is an interview with Joe where he is talking about the company and he is asked about a forthcoming trip to (I think) Mont Blanc and he says he has never been to Europe. Then he quickly corrects himself "if you don't count Scotland".

I don't particularly suggest you watch it at 26 minutes Here
