Not sure how you are approaching your first GR but I used most of this section in 2008 starting from the old crossing at NO353473. It is all dismantled but is still sleepered in places or else ballasted; either of these were a nuisance as they meant short steps on the sleepers (or very long ones!!) or very easy to turn your ankle on the ballast.

There were a couple of very short sections were the track was blocked but it was possible to route around the edge and rejoin a short distance further along. It is necessary to leave the track earlier than your last GR as the section from 417508 onto the next road bridge has been filled. It is easy to follow the farm roads through Drumgley to Lochside and then into Forfar. There is a Caravan Club site on the south shore of the Loch and country park which accepts tents
