Re: scotish Trail Walk!!

I am wondering right now whether all the vetters have contacted the coordinators and said they definitely want to vet Lary's route. All kidding aside, there is no need for a back up cell phone unless your primary phone is on its last legs. I find Vodaphone to have the best coverage in Scotland (for me anyway) and usually purchase a pay-as-u-go card when I enter the UK to avoid roaming charges on my US plan.

The one time I did go to Shielin of Mark bothy, I just continued on as a flat tent site among the tussocks is practically non-existent and I am a princess. I will also say, if the title of your overnight halt or lunch stop includes the word 'bothy', just plan on it meaning you have a roof that will keep the rain off of your head. Anything else is just gravy.

Re: scotish Trail Walk!!

Here's a nice little write up on Shielin of Mark bothy:

https://angusglens.wordpress.com/walks/bothies-huts-and-howffs/

(and no, there are no bunks, breakfasts or fuel for the stove unless you carry it in). It is a lovely spot, though. If you are going east from there into Glen Mark and on to Tarfside, try to catch the Queen's Well (a poignant memorial ornamental spring) - grid reference 420828.

Re: scotish Trail Walk!!

Larry? Larry?? That wouldn't be my old buddy Larry Grew would it?

Hi Larry. I thought I felt a gentle tug on my leg!

Mark's Bothy? Great choice. Space for bunks, and the showers are located just outside (cold, but refreshingly persistent). Toilet facilities are outdoors, to the rear of the building, but don't worry - your comfort and privacy is assured by their long term guardian, Pete Haggs.

Obviously luxury accommodation such as this is much sought after (often literally) but I'll be pleased to help you out and reserve a place for you. Send me a cheque (that's a check, Larry) for £50 made out to Challenge Accommodation Society Hospitality - just write CASH - and all you'll have to do is turn up and enjoy!

Happy trails.

You had best send me a cheque too, as I have the negatives from last night...
