Lorraine Nicholson

It is with great sadness we pass on news of the death of Lorraine Nicholson. Lorraine completed 3 crossings in the 1990s and was well known for her generous spirit to all who met her, often going out of her way to help others. In recent years she devoted much of her energy to campaigning for awareness of mental health issues.

Re: Lorraine Nicholson

Lorraine was a tireless worker for the Mountaineering Council of Scotland. She also was much involved in developing opportunities for visually impaired walkers. Latterly, as the author of "The Journey Home", she campaigned for the greater understanding of mental illness. She will be much missed.

I understand her funeral service will be held on Tuesday 1 September, 1230 in Perth Crematorium.

Re: Lorraine Nicholson

I am sorry to see this news about Lorraine Nicholson. I met her on the 1996 Challenge as I was crossing the Corrieyairack Pass with the late Iain Matheson. Always with a smile she slowed down to walk with us for an hour or so before resuming her normal mighty pace! Later we talked away the night at the Park Hotel bar where she told me of her plans to work with those who were less able. She was an exceptional woman.
